As an Australia company, we have decided to offer voluntary stewardship on all our products. That means we will take back the rubber at the end of its life and recycle it. Most of our high end products have a 10 year guarantee but expected to last much longer, more like 15 to 20 years.
There are many recycling facilities in each city and those that especially recycle rubber, so we will have no trouble ensuring the rubber that is installed this year will not end up as landfill in future years.
For 4 years we have been trying to put in place Wheelie bins on construction stes to take back any offcuts from installations. But it's very hard to change the building industry where rubbish gets cleared every day and dumped in a large skip. When we have personally been on sites, we have been able to rescue large offcuts and use them to cut them up as samples to send to architects/designers.

Rubber can be recycled over and over again, so it is considered one of the most sustainable floorings. Rubber produced from reclaimed rubber requires less energy than virgin rubber to produce. Using recycled rubber is a way of knowing that material has been saved from landfill.
The designer for the Smart Energy House in Sydney chose DalChoc, recycled rubber flooring for the kitchen for the home, because they wanted a flooring that wouldn't end up as landfill at the end of its life but also a product made from post-consumer waste. You can see the green speckle on black flooring on the kitchen floor and stairs.
Another company selling rubber flooring in Australia has on their USA website that the rubber can be disposed of in landfill or incinerated. I wonder if their Australian customers know about this! What happens to their product after 10 years?
